Gülsel Özkan is an artist who has received several international awards. She has worked for many years as a producer, director and screenwriter for documentary and feature films. She lives in Germany, but works worldwide.
In 1987 she began her film studies at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and graduated with distinction in 1993. Since 1988 she has been working as an independent filmmaker and producer and has made films worldwide, including films in the USA, Turkey, Greece, Guatemala, Ecuador, Costa Rica, China and Guatemala.
To date she has been responsible for more than 30 productions and scripts for television and cinema for the German and European market. Her films have received several national and international awards.
Some of the films are used in political education, among others by Amnesty International, Greenpeace, Pro-Asyl, the Refugee Council and the National Media Centres and in various international universities.
In 2011 Gülsel Özkan taught at various universities, including the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe as a lecturer for storytelling in S3D documentary and feature films. She was a member of the jury and jury president at many national festivals such as the Beyond Film Festival and international festivals such as the “African International Woman Filmfestival” in Harare in Zimbabwe and the VR-Festival in Beijing in China.
She has written several screenplays and has advised on dramaturgy. As a 3D producer she has contributed to the realisation of many projects, especially short films, documentaries and art installations such as “Multicultural Society 3D and Global (is) olation in 3D”.
Gülsel Özkan is managing director of Planet Film GmbH and has been manager and project consultant for several national and EU projects. Since 2009 she has been working with new media, especially 3D, 360°, VR, artistic projects with artificial intelligence and since 2012 she has been developing new dramaturgical models for “space-time narratives” “space-time experiences” for VR, MR. Currently she is researching and teaching new dramaturgical models for interactive digital storytelling for 2D, 3D and Virtual Reality.
